There is not such a cradle of democracy upon the earth as the Free Public Library, this republic of letters, where neither rank, office, nor wealth receives the slightest consideration. ~Andrew Carnegie

Book Sale Location

In the Woodland Public Library, Friends' "Basement Bookstore"
    250 First Street
    Woodland, CA  95695

The Friends hold monthly book sales downstairs in the Friends' area, as well as maintaining book and magazijne sales racks upstairs in the library by the elevator. Sales of these books raise money for numerous books and printed materials, library programs, community education and outreach events, library furniture, supplies and improvements.

The books that we sell are donated and the Friends really appreciate your donations of good used books. However,  the truth is that we are not able to sell a lot of the books that are donated to us. We have to pay to get unusable books taken away, so PLEASE reveiw these guide lines and cull your donations as appropriate.  It takes the book sorters a lot of time and effort sorting through books that are not saleable.  If YOU wouldn't want to buy it, most likely our customers wouldn't want to either.  You may discard your books in your recycle bin at home and help us save some money that could be spent helping the out the library.

Here are a few guidelines to help you determine whether your book donation will be helpful to us:

We do not accept the following:

  • Encyclopedias/Dictionaries
  • Consumer Reference Guides
  • Computer books/manuals
  • Reader's Digest condensed books
  • Textbooks/teacher's manuals
  • Torn, dirty, yellowed, mildewed or marked up books
  • Cassette tapes, including books on cassette tape
  • VHS tapes

We do accept:

  • Gently used newer paperback and hardback books
  • DVD's and books on DVD
  • Fiction and non-fiction, California and local history
  • Coffee table books
  • Oversized paperbacks
  • Large print books
  • Magazines, not torn or marked up (news magazines must be

              current)

  • Vintage/collectible books and magazines

We are basically looking for books in the condition you would seek if you were looking at used books to purchase. Donations may be made to the library during open hours. Receipts are available upon request.

Please email us if you have large donations and someone will contact you. We may be reached at: woodlandfol@yahoo.com  or leave a message at (530) 666-0545.

Thank you for your usable donations.
