2011-2012 Annual Calendar of Events

 

o        July, 2011:

o       July 28: Regular board meeting (Thursday, 5:30pm) Leake Conference Room

o       July 28: Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30 pm).  Open to all.

 

o        August, 2011:

o       No Board Meeting

o       August 25:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.

 

o        September 2011 (Library Card Sign-up Month):

o       September 8: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       September 8:  Thursday Members Only Preview Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm)

o       September 10: Quarterly Book sale - "Stroll Through History" (Saturday, 9am - 2pm)

o       September 24: Banned Books week (through October 1)

o       September 29:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.

 

o        October 2011:

o       October 13: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       October 16-22: National Friends of the Library Week (and also National Teen Reads Week)

o        Author Event on Thursday, October 20  - Jim Smith/James Chatfield. At 5:30 pm, there will be a member's only author reception with refreshments.  You may join at the door if you are not currently a member.  At 6:30pm, the author lecture will be open to public.  Jim will be discussing his first book, "Dead Cat Alley" and talk about his upcoming sequel.

o       October 27:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all

 

o        November 2011:

o       November 1:  Dia de los Muertos Event (Woodland Public Library, Tuesday, 4:30-6:30pm):  The Friends' will participate again this year and host a family event featuring the first day of this two day holiday.  We will sponsor several crafts (decorate sugar skulls for the kids? Make luminaries and masks.).  There will be a reception with a short program with a local children's author, story time and maybe some singing and folk dancing.  We will also provide a "Day of the Dead" alter.

o       November 2:  Dia de los Muertos Event (Woodland Community College Wednesday, 5:30-9pm):  The Friends' will participate again this year and provide a "Day of the Dead" alter.

o       November 10: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       November 12:  ALA's National Gaming Day (Saturday)

o       November 17:  "Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale" (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.  NOTE:  This sale is being held a week early because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

 

o        December, 2011:

o       December 8: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       December 8:  Thursday Members Only Preview Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm)

o       December 10: Quarterly Book sale - "Holiday Parade" (Saturday, 9am - 2pm) Open to all. 

o       December 22:  "Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale" (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.  NOTE:  This sale is being held a week early because of the Christmas/New Year holidays.

 

o        January, 2012:

o       January 12: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       January 26:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all. 

 

o        February, 2012 (Love Your Library month):

o       February (all month):  Buy a heart to post in the library to show how much you love the library. Fundraising (all month) with a special drawing for a prize on February 29th "Leap Day" (Wednesday)?

o       February 9: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       February 16:  Author Event with Patricia V. Davis (www.patriciavdavis.com)

     6:30pm  Author Lecture and Book Signing - Open to everyone

 o       February 23:  Thursday Members Only Preview Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm)

·        NOTE:  The Last Thursday book sale "open to all" is cancelled for February.

o       February 25:  Quarterly Saturday book sale (Saturday, 9am - 2pm) Open to all. 

 

o        March, 2012:

o       March 4: Teen Tech Week - "Get Connected @ Your Library" (through March 10)

o       March 8: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       March 17: St. Patrick's Day Mystery Night (Saturday, 6pm-9:00pm) Leake Conference Center

o       March 29:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.

 

o        April, 2012 (School Library Month):

o       April 8:  National Library Week (through April 14)

o       April 11:  Staff Appreciation for library staff (by Board of Directors)

o        Wednesday April, 11th Author event planned

o       April 12: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       April 19: Thursday Members Only Preview Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm) 

o       April 21: "Earth Day" Quarterly Saturday book sale (Saturday, 9am - 2pm) Open to all. 

o       April 26:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.

 

o        May, 2012:

o       May 10: Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Room

o       May 31:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.

 

o        June, 2012:

o       June 14:  Regular Board Meeting (Thursday, 5:30pm)

o       June 21:  Friends' Annual Membership Meeting (Thursday, 5:30 pm) Leake Conference Center.

o        This would be a member's only event (and membership drive event) We are planning an  author/chef reception and demonstration, food tasting and book signing.

o       June 28:  Last Thursday of the Month Book Sale (Thursday, 4-6:30pm).  Open to all.
